Planning a trip to Phoenix? Looking for a hiking trail to tackle while you are there? Here are three different hikes in Phoenix that will be sure to leave a big impression on you. Here is my guide for three successful and fun days of hiking out west! Day One - We are headed WEST! My mom and I decided to go to Phoenix, Arizona to do some hiking. For our trip to Arizona this past month, we decided to catch an early flight from Nashville, Tennessee to get to Phoenix, Arizona by early afternoon. By doing this we were able to get in half a day of hiking. On the first day, we decided to do CamelBack Mountain. CamelBack has two different trailheads. This is VERY IMPORTANT if you have never been to CamelBack before. I say that because you don’t want to be like us and go for the hardest trailhead… especially if you are a newbie, like us (haha). At CamelBack, there is the Cholla Trail and the Echo Canyon Trail. We decided that Echo Canyon Trailhead was the way to go! It is located at 4925 E. Mcdonald Dr.
Day Two - SedonaFor our trip we decided to venture outside of Phoenix for the day and head to Sedona. There, we went to hike to the famous “Devil’s Bridge”. Located at: Devil's Bridge Trail, Sedona, AZ 86336 This hike was such a great hike with so much to offer, from picture taking, to breathtaking views, it was a great hike! We started the hike around 9am in order to not get caught on the hike in the afternoon heat. Depending on your fitness level and how many times you stop for water breaks and pictures, this hike can take you roughly 3 hours to complete. There are several ways to get to Devil's Bridge, one of them being to rent a jeep or hike the entire thing. If you hike without a jeep, like we did, it is a 4.2 mile trail. For this trail there was not a lot of rock climbing type of hiking. There were some spots that were a little tricky and had some one way traffic areas. Everyone on the trail was very kind and considerate with the one way traffic, taking turns to let people up and down. One person said, “Take your time, we are all working together! We are all here to see the same thing!” I thought this was really awesome to see that there are still nice, polite people in the world. Once we got to the top, everyone was still working together and forming a line to get their picture on the bridge. The bridge is very narrow, so one person at a time would get on the bridge to take the picture. Heading back down the trail was a breeze! The goes down part is always the easiest part though. Once we got back to the bottom and back to the car, food was our next stop! After we picked up some pizza and rested for a bit, we drove around to check out some sites before heading back to phoenix. The first spot that we drove by was “Snoopy Rock” . They call this Snoopy Rock because it looks like Snoopy is laying down on his back at the top of the mountain. We also went to see Bell Rock, as well. This rock is called bell rock because of its unique bell shape. Little fun fact: the town of Sedona is a “Low Light Pollution City”. That means that they try to keep the light pollution to a minimum, for stargazing. With that being said… We found this McDonald’s that is BLUE! Like how crazy to see a BLUE McDonalds’s sign!
Day 3 - Piestewa Peak Located at 2701 E. Piestewa Peak Dr. This was the last hike of our three day hiking trip. This hike was probably my favorite. We started at 5:30am, in order to make it to the top in time to see the sunrise. I was surprised at how many people were up at that hour and already heading back DOWN the trail. It was a pretty cool sight to see when you looked up to see all the little lights glowing all throughout the trail up the mountain. It was an unforgettable hike to say the least. We hiked the Summit Trail. It was 1.2 miles, which is not a huge trail, but it is rated as “Extremely Difficult” and they aren’t joking. It was definitely a challenge and took us about 45 mins to get to the top. We made it to the top in the nick of time, the sun was just starting to rise when we got there. It was well worth it! I highly recommend doing this hike in the early morning. In conclusion, that is how we spent three fantastic, awesome days in Phoenix Arizona!
