2/8/2023 0 Comments 4 Easy Steps to a Cleaner HomeEveryone is super busy these days, but have you ever walked into someone home to found that their house is SPOTLESS? like when do they have time for all that?! Between school, work, kids, doctors appointments, playdates, birthday parties and everything in-between, HOW DO THEY DO IT!!! #1 Declutter... but like NOT You knew that was coming right? But what you did not know was my definition of DECLUTTER. What does declutter really mean? Throw everything out just because you only needed it that one time? Be a minimalist? Get rid of everything? In my opinion, declutter does not mean that you have to get rid of everything or even most things. I think it means to get rid of stuff that you do NOT WANT. If you want it... KEEP IT! Who cares if you have more than one or if it does not go with the decor, if you want it... KEEP IT! I have read so many blogs that tell me I need to declutter my house in order to have a clean home. Jokes on you! You thought that I was going to tell you to declutter! Do not get me wrong, I think that decluttering is a GREAT idea... if it needs to be done. I know, I know, I know! That goes against all the other stuff you have ever read online about decluttering and keeping things cleaned, but let's talk about what I am really trying to say here. I personally feel like when you declutter and get rid of the unwanted items (that you just never got around to actually getting rid of it), broken items, trash, expired goods etc. then you have already probably thrown out half of what you even have to start off with. Once you have gotten rid of the extra mess laying around, then you can go back and ORGANIZE. This is the key to keeping your house clean. Which leads me to my second step... #2 Organize It! Now that you have managed to get rid of all the trash, broken toys/items and unwanted items out of the house. We can start the real work... getting organized. If you make sure that all your stuff has a place (and somethings to even have a hiding place) then your house will always be picked up, maybe not clean just yet, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, of course. So now it is time to organize the books, toys, papers, purses, food items etc. Once every item as a home IT STAYS THERE. If you have littles like me, then you already know that NOTHING is going to stay where it's "home" is located. However, at the end of every day... it needs to be returned to its home. This is the magical trick to having a tidy home. Each and every night your house needs to be "reset". Everything needs to be put back in it's place. If there are toys out, they get put up at bedtime. If there is books out, they get put up before you go to bed. If you miss a night that is COMPLETELY OKAY. We are only human and can only do so much in one day. Some days you are just too exhausted to move over that load from the washer to the dryer, but guess what... there is always tomorrow. With that being said, you HAVE TO make it a priority for the following morning. If you did not get to the washer last night or the toys in the living room, it needs to be picked up FIRST thing in the morning (after coffee, of course, because who can function without coffee first). My point is... whatever you skipped over the night before needs to be TOP priority in the morning, even if you know the kids are going to come ripping through those toys again as soon as there eyes open. Once you have gotten into this routine of picking up every night then you can move on to the next step in keeping a clean home! #3 Daily Cleaning Habits Now that you have managed to get the decluttering done and got everything in it's home... We need to work on a "Daily Habits" List. As you know already, I am sure, there are just some things that need to be done every day in order to maintain a clean home. For example, the dishes. At my house, dishes get done every night. Every morning, dishes get put away. Keep in mind though, I am not a robot and I do not want to feel like one. If they do not get done that night then they will get done the following morning period. I understand that life can get crazy at times! So seriously, do not sweat small stuff like the dishes or laundry not getting done in such a robotic manner. It is completely OKAY and NORMAL to skip a Daily Habit once and awhile. The main objective is to make it a daily habit and get into a routine to the best of your ability. We already have so much on our plates. We definitely do not need more to worry about, so DON'T stress out over silly things ladies, it is not worth it! #4 Weekly/Bi-Weekly Cleaning Home Stretch Ladies!!! This is the LAST step to make your tidy house a home. Now that you have a nice picked up and tidy house, we need to actually clean it! The best part about this step in keeping your home clean is the fact that you have already done the "dirty" work. Think about it... if you keep your house tidied up throughout the week then you are already half way done with your chores list for the week. The main thing that needs to do be at least once a week, if not every other week, is sweeping and mopping those dirty floors!
Cleaning day should not be as bad as it sounds. Think about it, everything is back where it needs to be; nothing in the floors. The kitchen/bathrooms counters have been wiped, dishes/laundry is done (or started), trash has been taken out, and beds are made. Now the only things that need to be done for cleaning day is some light dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms, and sweeping/mopping floors. THAT IS IT! You are all done and ready to enjoy your weekend!
